ABOUT US - Compost Alert, Inc.
Who We Are:
We are a group of concerned citizens who have been
effected by numerous compost dumps in our
community. Since we have not received any
assistance from our elected officials, we are left with
the painstaking task of uncovering information on our
own. We have diligently researched this matter, and
in doing so, have substantiated our beliefs. We want
to share with you the information we have uncovered
during this process. Hopefully, this will enable you to
access important information without having to
"reinvent the wheel". We are focused on preserving
our environment, but most importantly, the health of
our citizens.
A Friend's Success Story: The Good Air Group (GAG)
was formed in Montgomery County, NY in 2001. Area
residents were effected by noxious odors from
Mohawk Valley Organics, an affiliate of Long Island
Compost Corp. The DEC REVOKED Mohawk Valley
Organics solid waste permit due to numerous
violations which included: Continuing off site odors,
acceptance of quantities of biosolids in excess of
daily limits on 45 occasions, failure to comply with
required odor tracking, and violations of effluent
limits. The Group's success is attributed to hard
work, media attention, excellent documentation of
odor incidents, and working closely with Attorney
General Eliot Spitzer's Environmental Protection
Bureau.
